Lisa Gray

Lisa Gray is a renowned family office consultant with a varied background in the financial advisory, financial journalism and marketing, and sustainability aspects of family wealth management. Her proprietary family dynamics, governance, and trust review process focuses on identifying hidden risks—even in the most loving, well-adjusted families—that impact investment and wealth management decisions.

In 2010, she developed a proprietary family wealth due diligence process for advisor selection that doubles as an advisor training program to address the singular needs of families of wealth. She also developed a proprietary individual project service delivery mechanism in 2012 that enables a bespoke consulting experience for family clients along with customized educational projects for both family and advisor clients.

Lisa is certified in a program designed to guide families in discovering their own pathways toward sustainability and family wealth success. A sought-after speaker, educator, panelist, author, and media resource on family office and wealth management topics, her work has been cited by the Capgemini Merrill Lynch World Wealth Report (2005), Barclay’s (2007), and the Wharton Global Family Wealth Alliance (2008).

Lisa’s experience in the wealth management industry began in 1988 as a financial advisor for Union Planters IBG, then Morgan Keegan & Co. (now Raymond James), and PaineWebber (now UBS). She is a regular contributor to the Journal of Wealth Management, is a member of its Editorial Board, and is a member of the CFA Institute’s Approved Speaker List. She has written two best-selling books, The New Family Office (Euromoney Books 2004) and Generational Wealth Management: A Guide for Fostering Global Family Wealth (Euromoney Books 2010). She created a new approach to wealth management, the Generational Wealth Management Continuum℠, which redefines the intellectual, human, and social capacities of family members as assets to be managed along with material and financial assets within a consummately integrated process.

Lisa speaks both domestically and all over the world and she works with families of all cultures, particularly in the US, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. She is familiar with the particular challenges families face specifically from generational and cultural perspectives and is adept at guiding families toward the achievement of their goals within their desire to preserve cultural traditions.

graymatter was honored to be the recipient of the Private Asset Management (PAM) award for “Best Family Office Consulting Firm” for 2013. Recipients of PAM awards are chosen by an independent panel of industry participants. graymatter was also chosen as a finalist for the Family Office Review (FOR) award in the category “Best of Human Services” in June 2012.

Lisa’s background also includes technical analysis of the capital markets, applications of behavioral finance to wealth management paradigms, and a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance from Memphis State University. Her favorite pastimes include spending time with her two precious grandchildren, running, traveling, singing and playing the piano, and her two canine children, Peter and Edmund.
